In my April 2021 Update, I wrote about my latest wine label tracing project. I used Procreate to trace the label from a bottle of Semeli Moschofilero wine.
This is the original label.

Here is the traced version I did in Procreate.

I wanted to follow-up on that by drawing the label by hand.
Before diving in, I did some quick drawings to decide if I wanted to draw in pen or pencil.
First, I tried pen outlining with a Sakura Pigma Micron pen and then filling in with a Tombow water-based brush pen.

Before I started, I thought that this was how I wanted to draw the label, but I wasn’t all that happy with the result. I then tried in pencil using my Pentel Orenz mechanical pencil along with a couple other mechanical pencils from MozArt Supplies.

I was going to try with regular graphite pencils, but I liked the experience and the results so much that I tried again with the mechanical pencils.

Based on this practice, I went ahead a took a more careful pass at doing the entire drawing with the mechanical pencils.
