Olympus XA with Kodak Pro Image

posted in: Photography | 0

One of the Christmas gifts Holly gave me was a 5-pack of Kodak Pro Image. I’ve used this film a few times in the past and have gotten reliably good images with it. Holly had looked at some of my posts to decide which film to get, and she chose well.

I recently finished the first roll in my Olympus XA. I shot this combination before back in September and liked the results. I decided the XA was a good place to start with the fresh pack.

Kodak Pro Image is rated at ISO 100, but I set the XA to ISO 50. I have gotten into the habit of shooting most of my color film 1-stop over-exposed.

I shot with it on 4 occasions. The first was over my long birthday weekend. After our brunch at On Point Bistro, I took a few pictures on our walk home.

Later that same day, we walked to Old City to shop at Penzys Spices and Omoi Zakka, and I brought the XA along.

Back in February, I took a picture of that same art in front of Las Bugambilias which was part of that roll of Lomography Berlin with my Minolta XE that didn’t turn out all that great. Since we were walking by again, I wanted to shoot a color version.

The next time I went out with the XA was on a walk to the Schuylkill River Trail. It was a bit of a gloomy day, and we were heading out mainly to stretch our legs. I wasn’t sure I wanted to take any pictures but brought my camera along just in case. Only took 3 photos (1 of which was on the walk home), one of which was of the work being done to extend the trail, something we’re quite happy about. We love the trail and walk it often and are looking forward to having more of it.

I didn’t get back to the Olympus XA until after our trip to Pittsburgh (part 1, part 2).

I resumed shooting with it on a short neighborhood walk looking for signs of spring with some success.

I finished the roll a few days later on a spring walk that was much more spring-like. I wrote about the photos I took with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV that day in my March 2023 Update. It was such a bright and sunny day that I shot these final images at ISO 100.

I was again please with the results from a roll of Pro Image. It has become on of my favorite films. I am quite thankful for Holly’s thoughtful gift of 5 rolls of it!
