After my less than satisfying experience shooting with Ilford Delta 3200, I retreated to a safe place: shooting Kodak Color Plus 200 with my Canon EOS Rebel 2000. Both the camera and the film are entirely reliable so it was a good combination for taking more Christmas adjacent photos.
A few days before Christmas, Holly and I took a walk to the Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest where, for the past few years, they set up an ice skating rink and other holiday activities. I had posted some of these in my December 2021 Update, but I wanted to post about the entire roll in one place.
On this walk, I used my Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 lens.
On the walk to and from the Winterfest, I took other pictures of Christmas decorations.
Of course, as we walked around, I took other, non-Christmas related photos. Having a wide angle lens allowed me to take some architecture photos that would have been difficult to capture with other lenses.
I nearly finished the roll on that walk, but I didn’t wait long to shoot the rest. The next day, I switched to my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens and took some pictures of our new Christmas tree and its decorations.
I had shared those in my December 2021 Update as well, but what I hadn’t mentioned was that I had taken similar photos with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV also with the 50mm f/1.8 lens. I was interested to compare the film photos with the digital photos.
The ones taken on film certainly have a warmer look. That may be partly due to having taken those later in the afternoon. I took the digital photos more in the middle of the day with better daylight.
As usual, I was pretty happy with the results from the Canon EOS Rebel 2000. I have also been pleased with my 17-40mm lens. When I first got it, I wasn’t sure how much I liked it, but I have since come to appreciate it.
