I previously shot a couple of Foma stocks, Fomapan Creative 200 and Fomapan Action 400. I also shot a roll of Arista EDU Ultra, which I had read was just repackaged Action 400. I’m not entirely convinced of that since I liked the results I got with the two official Foma rolls more than the Arista. Of course, camera, available light, and other factors always come into play.
I bought a couple rolls of Fomapan Classic 100. At the time, I thought I was getting one of the rolls I had already tried but that was not the case. I already shot one of those rolls with my Olympus OM-1.
I loaded it into my Canon EOS Rebel 2000 and went out with it on 2 occasions, once at the end of September and once at the beginning of October.
My first outing was a lunchtime walk around our neighborhood. I used my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 lens.
For the most part, the photos turned out pretty good. It was a bright, sunny day, so the 100 ISO worked well.
As I mentioned in a recent post, I’m trying to get more comfortable taking pictures of people or pictures of something else that includes people. The 24-105 lens helps since I don’t have to get close to anyone to do so.
I didn’t like the results from my second outing, which was also a walk in our neighborhood. I switched to my Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 lens. I’ve had good luck with that lens before so I’m not inclined to blame it for the so-so outcome.
Again, I tried taking some photos with humans in them.
Although I’ve had some success with Foma stocks, I still prefer some of the rolls of Ilford and Kodak black and white films I’ve used. Especially now with film prices being what they are, I’ll be focusing on just shooting my favorites for the foreseeable future.
