A Visit to the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge

After film-related mishaps major and minor, I next went out with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. I decided to go digital not so much because of the mishaps but more because of where we were going. A friend invited us to go with her to the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge. I knew I would probably want to take a lot of photos and would also want more choice of focal lengths. I used my EF 24-105mm f/4 lens. With my film cameras, I mainly shoot with prime lenses so don’t really have a comparable lens for any of those.

Holly and I went to the refuge once before over a decade ago. At the time, we took a train which got us there but was a little inconvenient since there was a fairly significant walk from the train station which cut into time we could have spent exploring the refuge.

Our friend had never been there and decided to rent a Zipcar which was a much easier way to get there.

We spent about 2 hours at the refuge. Although it was February, the grounds were still plenty scenic.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a wildlife refuge without any wildlife.

As I mentioned, Holly and I had been to the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge once before. We went in May of 2012. Since it was late spring, the refuge looked quite different. At the time, I had my Canon EOS Rebel T3.

Although we love our city life, we always appreciate getting out for a walk like this.
